Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a crown and a filling?’
A crown is a restoration made from Porcelain or Zirconia that covers the entire tooth and usually necessary if the tooth has a large caries (decay) or extensive damage, while a filling is a tooth-colored composite material used to repair a smaller area of damage or decay. Crowns are custom made in the dental lab for a precise fit to a treated tooth and require 2 dental appointments. Fillings are done chairside during single appointment.
What are my options to replace a missing tooth?
At Paradise Dental Care we know how important the tooth replacement is for our patient’s oral health and function, that’s why we offer few different treatment options to replace a missing tooth. Those include partial denture, bridge or implant. Partial denture usually less ideal and less comfortable option and represent removable dental prosthesis which can replace single or multiple teeth. Dental Bridge on the other hand is a non-removable prosthesis, which consists of crowns on either side of the missing tooth supporting the pontic and is cemented in place. In some cases, Dental Implant can be a best option for a missing tooth replacement. Dental implant tooth replacement consists of 3 different parts: the implant itself, which is surgically placed in the jawbone, the implant abutment, which is a screw connecting the implant to the crown, and the crown. If you have a missing tooth or teeth and looking into replace those Dr. Kendall Jones will be glad to discuss the best possible options with you.
Is getting a dental implant painful?
Dental implant placement is performed by oral surgeon under local anesthesia, so patients should experience little to no discomfort during the procedure. Some patients may experience mild discomfort after the procedure, but this can typically be managed with over-the-counter pain medications.
How long does it take to get a dental implant?
The length of time required to complete a dental implant treatment varies depending on the individual case. In general, the process can take anywhere from three to six months, with several appointments required to complete the process.
Do I have to have a Root Canal if I have a toothache?
At Paradise Dental Care we often see patients who experience a toothache. A mild toothache or cold sensitivity can be caused by a cavity that can be treated without the need for a root canal. However, if the pain is intense and cannot fully go away with the OTC pain management medications, or wakes you up at night, then it can be a sign of the tooth infection, which must be treated with the Root Canal. In Order for us to diagnose a tooth infection we will start by taking an X-Ray of the tooth, and Dr. Kendall Jones will perform an intraoral exam to check for swelling and puss filled lesions. If you experience toothache please don’t hesitate to contact Paradise Dental Care and schedule your appointment for the exam.
